Reading- We have recently started a new reading programme called 'The Daily 5.' This week the children will be introduced to the second phase, called 'Read to Someone'. They will be learning how to read to a partner.

Sharing Topic-There will now be no show and tell this week. Please ask your child why this is the case. Next week your child can choose to present either topic from week 3 or 4.

Sound of the Week- Vowel digraphs. We will be reviewing oa,ue,ie,ee,ai. Tip- when two vowels go walking the first one does the talking as says his name. Watch the song Two Vowels.

Grammar- Alphabetical order.
Writing- Creative writing using a picture as a prompt and procedure writing.


Reading- Looking at character development using character profiles.




Maths
Number- Counting in 2s and 5s. Structuring numbers- looking for different ways to make 10 and 20 using ten and double ten frames.




Other Areas- Pattern, time and shape revision.
 





Week 2
Sharing Topic- Bring in a non-fiction book and tell us two facts you learnt from reading it.

Pastoral Care Focus- Being a good sport (preparation for Sports Day).

Literacy
Sound of the Week- 'y' at the end of the word. When 'y' is at the of a word he thinks he is a vowel. Y can make a long E (baby) or a long I (cry). Watch this YouTube 3 Sounds of Y.
Grammar- Initial blends and using them to help break words into chunks while reading.
Writing- Procedure writing will be our main focus this term. Procedures tell the reader how to do/make something. This week we will be using a template to write a procedure for fruit kebabs.
Reading- Using a contents page to locate information in a non-fiction text.
 
Maths
Number- Counting in 2s and 5s. Addition- adding 1,2 or 3 (or 10,20, 30 for extension) to numbers to 100.
Other Areas- Money- sorting and ordering coins, looking for different ways to make amounts.

Reading Focus-Making predictions about what is going to happen in a text. Comparing fiction and non-fiction texts.
